Tardes Taurinas -

Solo-Exhibition by Alexandra Lopez Iglesias

March 15th- 23rd

Opening Reception March 15, 2025 from 5:00-9:00 pm

Tardes Taurinas is inspired from growing up in Mexico and being the daughter of a true aficionado, someone that lived and breathed bullfighting and delighted in transferring all the knowledge and passion to his only child. Always present, however, was an internal conflict between the love for a father and the sorrow felt for the inhumane and needless killing of a majestic and beautiful beast.

In this collection, Lopez Iglesias explores contradictory feelings and inherent paradoxes within most relationships and situations with a form of desperation palpable in every piece.

Lopez Iglesias writes about the works, “They register a collapse and integration between man, beast, memory, and place. In some cases the beast is channeling a majestic and powerful bull, and in others, the beast is an unstoppable, all consuming fire that leaves us no choice but to surrender and watch”

Tardes Taurinas are works on cotton paper and ceramic sculptures, some of which are mounted on the wall with meathooks. “I choose materials in my art practice that hold memory, such as paper and clay whose nicks, markings and imperfections can never be fully erased”, says Lopez Iglesias of her choice in materials.
