Jasser Membreno - Casa Monstruos
April 12 - 27, 2025
Opening Reception April 12, 5-9pm
The monsters and fantasy landscapes of Jasser Membreno’s Casa Monstuos move between worlds, just like people. In this solo exhibition, the gruesome and whimsical monsters of Membreno’s drawings and paintings step into worlds that ask them to assimilate, find authenticity and give and receive compassion. The first-generation Central-American artist draws inspiration from the childhood escapes of 80’s cult films he relied on as a child moving between worlds of school, home and homelands.
Jasser Membreno is an artist and designer merging autonomic creative processes with monsters, surrealism, and elements of Latin American and European mythology. After attaining a B.A. in Film and Video Animation from CalArts, Membreno developed projects for Disney and entertainment industry companies which evolved into his establishment of Casa Monstrous, a multimedia art and storytelling series. His work has exhibited at La Luz de Jesus Gallery and LAMAG and he’s led programs for LA Commons and Arts for Healing and Justice Network. Membreno is a first-generation child of Central American immigrants and was born, raised and is currently based in South LA.
