Keystone Gallery is pleased to announce Pool Pass, the latest solo exhibition of paintings and immersive performances by Jen Dunlap. The exhibition runs from March 30th to April 6th, 2024. Performances will occur on opening and closing nights.**
For her third solo show at Keystone, Jen Dunlap taps into her former Southern Baptist upbringing to create new water rituals for our community. Participants will use collected LA rain water to wash each other’s hands, submerse in a modern baptismal font, and tread through a tapestry-adorned chamber to observe vibrant, gestural landscape paintings. The paintings offer a meditation on bodies of water and what they symbolize for us in our immediate daily community and shared unconsciousness.
‘Pool Pass’ follows Dunlap’s March 2020 show ‘Scream Chimney,’ which featured premonitory performance pieces that asked participants to exorcise anxiety and anger by screaming into a 12’ tall chimney, then lean into sculptural fabric arms to receive a giant hug - which for many was their last physical human contact for some time. One leap year later, the work in Pool Pass is a celebration of community and the rituals that bind us together.
Jen Dunlap: (b. 1981) is an Artist and Production Designer based in LA. Dunlap primarily works with painting and performance to explore human interconnectivity as it relates to inner emotion, psychological mythologies, and environmental relationships. She has received Artist Grants for Residencies at Uno Caña (Mexico City) and the Vermont Studio Center. Dunlap received her BA from Baylor University in 2004 with courses at RISD and SVA. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Texas, Toronto, and Los Angeles. She works around the world as a Production Designer for film, and was recently nominated for a VMA and ADG award.
Keystone Gallery is part of the Keystone Art Space, located at 338 South Avenue 16, Los Angeles, CA 90031.
Daily viewing hours for this exhibit are 12-5 pm or by appointment.
