Keystone Gallery is excited to present Krista Machovina’s solo show ‘Tidal’ which opens to the public March 4 and is on view in the gallery through March 19, 2023.
Los Angeles based painter Krista Machovina moved about 13 times over the years. Much of her youth was spent living on or near various Air Force bases including 4 years in the Philippines. She became an experienced packer and unpacker of moving boxes, apartments, studios, friendships and relationships.
Her latest exhibition, Tidal, explores the accumulation of life experiences and how we hold the memories of them. This current body of work is an ebb and flow between her familiar motifs and expanded mediums, format and palette.
Machovina now fully appreciates the beauty of the wear and tear earned from living. The patina developed by weathering all that life brings translates into the surfaces and structure of her mixed media and oil on panel pieces.
The work in Tidal attempts to hold the bits and pieces of memory, like trying to keep water from slipping through your fingers. It recalls and collects the small treasures that make each of us who we are: the good, the bad, the ugly, the sublime.
