In Westworld, Bernard brushes the dirt off of the buried Maeve. Literally pulling power and strength from the dirt.
hopeful: feeling or inspiring optimism about a future event. "a hopeful sign”
time capsule: a container storing a selection of objects chosen as being typical of the present time, buried for discovery in the future.
Why not a hopeful time capsule? Opening a time capsule is a point of discovery, surprise, and amazement. Anything found, whether it be within the walls of a home or under the capstone of a building sparks curiosity and a bit of hope. Hope that we learn more about ourselves, where we came from, what kind of people we were at that moment in time. Maybe it could guide us to our potential instead of pulling us back. Strangely like a DNA test; we don’t always like what we find. How can we push beyond the discomfort to a better world?
Originally from Kansas City, Beth has lived in Los Angeles for the last 30 years. She has a bachelor’s in fashion design from Otis College of Art and Design, as well as an MFA in art from Art Center College of Design. Her work is often constructed like a garment. The materials and processes of fashion serve as surrogates for the way art is traditionally constructed. It can have an obsessive quality, with many pieces making one piece. Detail and minutiae are set against the large-scale object. Her work has a softness or pliability. Feminism and escapism are both subtle and perversely obvious.
