Krista Machovina’s current solo exhibit reflects attempts to contextualize and compartmentalize the impact of an unavoidable perspective shift. While everyone has to some degree been changed by the global pandemic, its impact was compounded for Krista Machovina who concurrently dealt with a personal health challenge.
In August of 2020, she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, so unusual no established protocol existed. After months of treatment, she emerged from the resultant brain fog and physical healing, creating the majority of the exhibit’s art pieces in the past six months. A year out from diagnosis, she is currently cancer free. By breaking the processes down into their simplest components, and following creative impulses that just made her happy, she rebuilt her capacity of making art
Imbued with both the delight and gravitas that can only come from not being killed off by an unexpected foe, Transient Storage of Tactile Memory continues her theme of water, but adds nonrepresentational pieces that capture the colors and textures of past experiences in oil painting, mixed media and cyanotypes
Keystone Gallery is open from Noon to 5pm, Tuesday - Sunday or by appointment.
