NATIVE - LINDSEY WARREN

April 13-21, 2019

Reception Saturday, April 13th, 5-8pm

Keystone Gallery presents an exhibition of paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Lindsey Warren. In this group of recent work Warren celebrates her return to Los Angeles after 15 years on the east coast. The nostalgia and rediscovery of her hometown led to the creation of a series of urban landscape paintings that affectionately represent Los Angeles from a variety of perspectives. Close-ups of landscaping and plants are paired with wider views of downtown and suburban neighborhoods, generating an overall portrait and colorful interpretation of the sprawling city.

Warren's work highlights the dramatic and fleeting light that produces unique color experiences throughout the day, month and year. Each piece in this show depicts a specific place but one that anyone who calls Los Angels home might find familiar. Synthetic and natural environments combine to create the scenes that are exclusive to the environment in Southern California. Through a process of combining photographic references, systematic processes, perception and memory, Warren translates specific moments in time into the presented compositions.
