Tim Stark - finding space
June 23, 2018 - July 1, 2018
Opening: 5pm - Sunset, June 23rd
From the earliest moments of this country, artists were enlisted to capture the newly minted American Landscape. Vast and rich, the land was rendered with a focus on the grand, the sublime, and the beautiful. A contemporary experience of the landscape is, more than not, vastly different. While still devastatingly wide and varied, the freedom and prosperity represented by the seemingly limitless potential of the landscape somehow seems, while still grand, sublime, and beautiful, less vast, less rich, and less clear.
Finding place, a solo exhibition by Tim Stark, is an investigation the American Landscape, memory, and identity through paintings, drawings, and photographs. An exploration, these works serve as a mindful consideration of a landscape seen, but not often felt, and an identity rooted in the images of history and redefined by the passage of time.
